What exactly are call transcriptions?

Call transcriptions are a new OpenPhone feature, powered by artificial intelligence. 

With AI-generated English language call transcription software, teams have a note-taking assistant on every call. You can search for specific keywords so that you can reference topics of interest that were discussed, which is especially helpful for research, business meetings, interviews, and other similar use cases

Note that this functionality is for voice calls only, not for video calls.

How can I get call transcriptions in OpenPhone?

By default, OpenPhone will provide you with an automatic transcription of any recorded calls that occur. Keep in mind call transcripts and summaries are only available to Business plan users.

How does call transcription work in OpenPhone?

Once you enable call recording for a specific conversation or all calls associated with a phone number in your workspace, OpenPhone automatically generates a call transcription based on the recording. 

To disable this setting, you must be an owner or admin user in your OpenPhone workspace:

  • Click “Settings” from the left-hand menu from the OpenPhone web or desktop app. 
  • Under “Workspace”, select “Phone numbers”. 
  • Click the phone number you wish to disable call transcripts for. 
  • Toggle off the option next to “Call transcriptions”.
What are the benefits of call transcriptions?

  • Refer back to the exact words spoken during the call, minimizing the risk of miscommunication or misunderstanding.
  • Search for specific information within a conversation. Instead of listening to the entire call, team members can quickly search for keywords or topics of interest within the phone call transcription, saving time and effort.
